Boat lover Danny Velja leads Allura Boats.
How long have you been involved with boats, Danny?
I’ve been a boat lover for just over 40 years. Over that time I’ve tested, supplied and taught more people than I can remember about boats and boating and safety in and out of the water.
I’ve skippered fishing and pleasure boat charters and volunteered with the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard, which was extremely rewarding. In the Coast Guard, I was a Flotilla Commander and conducting many rescues and searches in adverse conditions at sea, and inland waterways.
A large part of that work with the Coast Guard was instructing crews on rescue, boat handling and boat safety procedures.
From a business point of view, I’ve also owned, built and managed my successful bus and coach charter company and other businesses. These business experiences have proven invaluable in developing and taking Allura Boats to the next level in the boating marketplace today.
What made you start Allura Boats?
Well, my love of the water for one thing. Boating for business or pleasure is one of those activities where you’re at one with nature. It’s also an excellent way for families to bond and spend time together, either water skiing or fishing.
My team and I love helping people and businesses succeed. After all, they get to save money on their boat without lowering quality or safety.
What is the most important thing you’ve learnt in over 40 years of boating?
Make sure you buy the right boat for the activity. Far too many people buy a boat and discover that it does not suit their purpose, so they end up disappointed.
You also have a percentage of smaller boat dealerships buying boats based on price. Sadly though, many people do not want them, which means they have to sell these boats at a heavily discounted price, which bites into their profit margins.
What are Allura Boats core values and beliefs?
Our core values and beliefs are that a smile goes a long way, and stellar customer service and boat quality are crucial. We’re also not about selling boats to just anybody. We’re about listening and matching the right boat or boats to the right business or private customers and providing the solution to them on their budget quickly and easily.

We want people and businesses to educate themselves about boats before buying one or more so they do not waste their money.
What do you do in your spare time?
Well, my wife and I have 16 grandchildren between us. We love spending time away with them, in a timeshare, on the Murray River boating or water skiing, camping, and just being with them.
What’s the number one boat tip you’ve learnt over 40 years in boating?
If you’re looking to buy one boat for private use or several boats to sell or use in your own boating business, take your time and do your due diligence. It’s a significant investment, and the last thing you want to do is be unhappy with your purchase.
Also, make sure the people you’re buying your boat from have proven industry and boating experience. Buying a boat from a service that has not used the boats they sell is a big mistake. So please do your homework first, so you do not waste your time and money.
